The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the etiology of dental caries and preventive strategies, evaluate individual- and community-based approaches to preventive oral health care, explain strategies for the prevention of early childhood caries, and apply evidence-based approaches to mechanical and chemical plaque control, saliva, nutrition, sweeteners, fluoride applications, alternative preventive materials, and minimally invasive dentistry practices within both clinical and public oral health contexts.
This course addresses individual- and community-based preventive oral health approaches for the prevention of dental caries, with a focus on oral hygiene, saliva, nutrition, fluoride applications, preventive materials, and the principles of minimally invasive dentistry

| 1. | Explains the etiology and pathogenesis of dental caries and its relationship with protective factors such as saliva, nutrition, oral hygiene, and fluoride. |
| 2. | Evaluates early childhood caries and community-based preventive oral health approaches. |
| 3. | Compares mechanical and chemical plaque control methods according to patient needs and develops appropriate oral hygiene recommendations. |
| 4. | Analyzes dietary control, sweeteners, and individual risk factors in the prevention of dental caries and formulates appropriate preventive recommendations. |
| 5. | Evaluates systemic and topical fluoride applications, as well as caries-preventive dental materials, based on scientific evidence. |
| 6. | Relates the principles of minimally invasive dentistry to caries prevention and caries management processes in accordance with patient safety, ethical principles, and public health benefits. |
