Objectives of the Course

Understanding development of primary and permanent teeth, preventive interventions, diagnosis and treatment planning in pediatric dentistry

Course Content

Morphological and histological characteristics of primary teeth; eruption and root resorption; dental caries, preventive interventions, restorative materials used in children; examination and treatment methods.

Learning Outcomes
1.To understand normal developmental pExplains the general morphological characteristics of primary teeth, their embryonic development, eruption timing, root resorption processes, and the histology of enamel, dentin, and pulp; evaluates the clinical significance of these features in pediatric dental practice.rocesses and abnormal situations in primary, mixed and permanent dentition .
2.Applies the fundamental principles of medical history taking, clinical examination, radiographic assessment, and caries risk analysis in pediatric patients; evaluates the obtained data in accordance with patient safety and record-keeping principles.
3.Evaluates early childhood caries, treatment planning in pediatric patients, and minimally invasive dentistry approaches; plans preventive and patient-centered treatment options.
4.Classifies pulp diseases in primary teeth and their differential diagnostic criteria; determines the most appropriate vital or non-vital pulp therapy for primary teeth based on scientific evidence.
5.Compares the indications, clinical procedures, and treatment objectives of apexogenesis and apexification in immature permanent teeth; evaluates the appropriate treatment approach and the need for referral in relevant cases.
6.Analyzes the principles of restorative treatment in the primary dentition, cavity preparation concepts, adhesion strategies, glass ionomer cements, hybrid glass ionomer cements, and contemporary restorative materials; plans appropriate restorative approaches for severely damaged anterior and posterior primary teeth while considering effective communication with the patient, parents, and dental team.
