Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enhance students’ advanced preclinical skills in restorative dentistry and to provide competency in caries management and esthetic restorative procedures in accordance with the principles of minimally invasive dentistry. The course is designed to enable students to plan appropriate restorative treatment strategies for different clinical scenarios, effectively apply isolation techniques, and correctly utilize contemporary restorative materials.

Course Content

Within this course, current concepts and techniques related to dental ergonomics, caries removal, and restorative procedures are practiced in a preclinical setting. Students gain hands-on experience in rubber dam isolation and the use of contemporary matrix systems. In addition, they perform procedures involving the management of crown fractures, vital pulp therapy (pulp capping), indirect composite restorations, composite laminate veneers, and diastema closure techniques. The course content also covers tissue-preserving preparation principles based on minimally invasive restorative approaches, esthetic restorative procedures, and the clinical applications of contemporary restorative materials. The course aims to develop students’ manual dexterity, material handling skills, esthetic assessment abilities, and overall competency in restorative clinical procedures.

Learning Outcomes
1.Applies ergonomic principles in dentistry and demonstrates appropriate working positions in clinical practice.
2.Analyzes the histopathology of dental caries, caries activity, and risk factors to perform individualized caries risk assessment.
3.Compares advanced caries detection methods and caries removal techniques to determine appropriate diagnostic and treatment approaches.
4.Applies dental matrix systems, isolation methods, cavity disinfection procedures, and polymerization techniques in accordance with patient safety principles.
5.Evaluates the properties of materials used in direct composite resin restorations, glass ionomer restorations, and vital pulp therapies to select appropriate restorative materials.
6.Explains caries preventive applications and remineralization methods and develops preventive strategies for the promotion and maintenance of community oral health.
