Objectives of the Course

The goal is to teach wire bending and appliance design techniques for diagnostic tools and determining the need for orthodontic treatment.

Course Content

Performing active and passive clasp bends used in removable orthodontic appliances, appliance preparation.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Use orthodontic hand instruments (bird-beak, three-prong, and flat-nose pliers, wire cutters) correctly and for their intended purpose, and perform controlled bends on hard stainless steel wire while distinguishing the active and stabilizing tips.
2.Bend basic geometric forms (square, triangle, star) with accurate angles, equal side/arm lengths, and single-plane symmetry, accounting for the mechanical behavior of stainless steel wire (stiffness/elasticity and springback)
3.Fabricate drop and Adams clasps to clinical standards, satisfying criteria such as retentive-tip placement, arrowhead position, and passive seating of the clasp on the cast.
4.Bend active/passive wire components such as labiolingual springs and vestibular arches with appropriate form, symmetry, and activation characteristics, and explain their position and function on a removable appliance.
5.Self-assess and verify bent forms and appliance components for right/left mirror symmetry, dimensional accuracy, and surface quality (absence of kinks, flattening, or burrs); identify and correct sources of error and complete the task within the allotted time.
