The aim of this course is to provide dental students with fundamental knowledge of the basic concepts of law and the principles of health and dental law, while increasing awareness of patient rights, the rights and responsibilities of healthcare professionals, professional ethics, informed consent, professional liability, malpractice, and current national and international health legislation. At the end of the course, students are expected to integrate legal knowledge and ethical principles into clinical practice, fulfill their professional responsibilities, and develop appropriate decision-making skills to prevent potential legal disputes.
This course covers the fundamental concepts and sources of law, the basic principles, historical development, and current applications of health and dental law. The course includes patient rights and responsibilities, the rights and obligations of dentists and other healthcare professionals, national and international health legislation, informed consent, the dentist–patient relationship, professional contracts, professional liability, indications, complications, and malpractice from a legal perspective. In addition, through judicial decisions and case-based discussions, students develop skills in legal reasoning, ethical decision-making, and compliance with legal regulations in professional dental practice.
