Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the clinical environment through structured observation of dental practice, including patient admission and management, infection control procedures, diagnostic and treatment approaches, clinical communication, and professional ethics. The course enables students to systematically observe clinical procedures performed in different dental specialties, understand clinical decision-making processes, and develop awareness of patient safety and professional responsibilities before actively participating in patient care.

Course Content

The course includes orientation to the clinical environment, patient safety, infection prevention and control, sterilization and disinfection procedures, patient documentation, medical history taking, clinical examination, radiographic assessment, and observation of diagnostic and treatment procedures in restorative dentistry, endodontics, periodontology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and orthodontics. Students also observe clinical communication, multidisciplinary patient management, professional ethics, clinical documentation, and case discussions through structured observation and reflective evaluation.

4.Distinguish the basic diagnostic and treatment procedures performed in different dental specialties.
5.Explain the purposes of the basic instruments, equipment, and materials used in clinical practice.
6.Observe dentist–patient communication, teamwork, and professional behavior in the clinical setting.
7.Record and evaluate clinical observations in accordance with ethical principles and patient confidentiality.
8.Interpret clinical observations using the principles of evidence-based dentistry and identify personal learning needs for professional development.
