The aim of this course is to provide dental students with fundamental knowledge of fluid and electrolyte balance, metabolic response, hemostasis, shock, and surgical infections in surgical patients, and to introduce the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting the oral cavity, oropharynx, neck, larynx, salivary glands, and paranasal sinuses. The course also aims to develop competencies in the evaluation, basic management, and multidisciplinary treatment of cleft lip and palate, as well as soft tissue and facial injuries.
The course covers fluid and electrolyte balance and metabolic response in surgical patients, mechanisms of hemostasis, types of shock, and surgical infections. It also includes oral lesions, oropharyngeal diseases, neck masses and deep neck infections, snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), laryngeal diseases and tracheotomy, salivary gland diseases, epistaxis and paranasal sinus diseases, cleft lip and palate, and the clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and basic management of soft tissue and facial injuries. Emphasis is placed on the role of the dentist within the multidisciplinary healthcare team and comprehensive patient management.
