The aim of this course is to provide students with theoretical knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, and classification of oral mucosal diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region, and to develop their ability to systematically evaluate these lesions, formulate differential diagnoses, establish a preliminary diagnosis, plan appropriate diagnostic and treatment processes, and determine the need for referral when necessary. The course also aims to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, promote patient safety and professional ethical principles, and foster clinical decision-making competencies in accordance with the principles of evidence-based dentistry.

This course covers the classification and fundamental characteristics of oral mucosal lesions, with detailed emphasis on white, red, and pigmented lesions, potentially malignant disorders, and oral mucosal cancers. Infectious and non-infectious stomatitis, diseases of the tongue and lips, and gingival hyperplasias are also examined in terms of their clinical features, differential diagnosis, and management approaches. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on the systematic clinical evaluation of oral mucosal lesions, the early recognition of high-risk lesions, appropriate referral criteria, patient safety, professional ethical responsibilities, and the application of current scientific evidence. The course aims to enhance students' clinical reasoning, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills in the diagnosis and management of oral mucosal diseases.
