Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the normal physiology of the muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and reproductive systems. The course enables students to explain the physiological mechanisms responsible for maintaining homeostasis and to integrate basic physiological principles into preclinical and clinical dental education.

Course Content

Physiological principles of the muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and reproductive systems; regulation of homeostasis; interactions among body systems; and the relevance of these physiological mechanisms to oral and dental health.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Understands the formation and characteristics of resting and action potentials.
2.Understands the organization and main functions of the nervous system. Learns the structure and types of neurons, types of muscles, and the mechanisms of muscle stimulation and contraction.
3.Knows the structure and organization of the cardiovascular system and grasps the basic principles of blood circulation.
4.Learns the structure and function of the kidneys and comprehends body fluid regulation.
5.Learns the structure and function of the gastrointestinal tract and understands nutrient intake, digestion, and absorption.
6.Learns the structure and organization of the respiratory system and understands the basic principles of gas exchange.
7.Learns metabolic functions and understands the secreted hormones in the body, their secretion sites, and effects.
8.Learns the reproductive functions in males and females.
