The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of biochemistry, the chemical basis of biological systems, and the biochemical processes occurring in living organisms. The course covers laboratory safety, basic laboratory practices, the structure and properties of biomolecules, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, nucleic acids, and nucleotide metabolism, with the goal of integrating theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory skills.
This course covers an introduction to biochemistry; laboratory safety; basic laboratory measurement and analytical techniques; spectrophotometry; preparation of solutions; water, buffer solutions, and pH; atoms, molecules, and chemical bonds; the structure of organic compounds; aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic, and heterocyclic compounds; functionally important biochemical groups; amino acids, peptides, and protein structure; chemical reactions of amino acids; methods for protein structure analysis; enzymes, enzyme kinetics, inhibition, and regulation; protein and enzyme assays; proteoglycans; water- and fat-soluble vitamins; vitamin-like compounds; minerals, electrolytes, trace and ultra-trace elements; purine and pyrimidine nucleotide metabolism; and the structure of nucleic acids.

| 3. | Identify the biochemical roles of fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, vitamin-like compounds, minerals, electrolytes, and proteoglycans. |
| 4. | Apply laboratory safety rules, use basic laboratory equipment, and gain proficiency in solution preparation, measurement, and analytical methods (e.g., spectrophotometry). |
