Objectives of the Course

This course aims to provide dental students with comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of the normal anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous systems and the head and neck region. The course covers the morphology, topographical relationships, and clinical significance of the brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves, peripheral nerves, nerve plexuses, sensory organs, muscles, blood vessels, fasciae, and other anatomical structures of the head and neck. It enables students to apply anatomical knowledge to clinical examination, local anesthesia techniques, interpretation of diagnostic imaging, and safe and effective dental procedures.

Course Content

This course covers the anatomy of the central nervous system, including the spinal cord, brainstem, cerebellum, diencephalon, telencephalon, ventricular system, and the vasculature of the central nervous system. It also includes the anatomy of the peripheral nervous system, spinal nerves, cervical, brachial, lumbar, and sacral plexuses, as well as the cranial nerves. The course further addresses the anatomy of the eye and ear, superficial structures of the face, muscles of facial expression and mastication, the temporomandibular joint, the parotid region, neural and vascular anatomy of the face, the oral cavity, teeth, tongue, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, intraoral injection sites, the temporal and infratemporal regions, the pterygopalatine fossa, the pharynx, the larynx, and the anatomy of the neck through both theoretical instruction and practical laboratory sessions. Emphasis is placed on clinically applied and topographical anatomy relevant to dental practice, including anatomical variations and their clinical significance.

Learning Outcomes
1.Describes the structures of the thorax, heart, mediastinum and lymphatic system at the macroscopic level.
2.Explain the anatomical features of the organs of the respiratory system (nose, larynx, trachea, lungs and diaphragm).
3.Describe the anatomical structure of the digestive system and accessory organs (liver, bile ducts, pancreas).
4.Explain the structure of the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra) organs and establish their connection with the clinic.
5.Explain and compare the structure of the genital system (male and female) organs.
6.Explain the location of the endocrine system organs and evaluate their anatomical relationship with surrounding structures.
7.Describe the anatomical features of the structures of the central nervous system and their connections with sensory-motor pathways.
8.Distinguish anatomical structures on cross-sectional planes and explain the topographic relationships of systems on these planes.
9.Develops interpretation skills by correlating acquired systematic anatomy knowledge with clinical examples.
