This course aims to provide dental students with fundamental knowledge of infectious diseases, including transmission routes, clinical features, diagnostic approaches, treatment principles, and prevention strategies. The course enables students to evaluate head and neck and oropharyngeal infections, perform differential diagnosis of infectious conditions encountered in dental practice, and apply essential principles of infection control, sterilization, disinfection, waste management, and antimicrobial use. It also aims to increase awareness of transmission risks and prevention strategies for occupationally important infections such as HIV and viral hepatitis.
This course covers the fundamental terminology and concepts of infectious diseases, followed by clinical approaches to patients with infections. It includes oropharyngeal infections, head and neck infections, differential diagnosis of infectious diseases encountered in dental practice, and principles of diagnosis and management. The course also addresses infection control procedures, sterilization and disinfection methods, medical waste management, prevention of occupational infections among healthcare workers, transmission and prevention of HIV and viral hepatitis, as well as rational antibiotic use and indications for antimicrobial prophylaxis.
