This course aims to provide dental students with a fundamental understanding of general pathology, including the mechanisms of cell and tissue injury, inflammation, wound healing, immunopathological processes, metabolic and genetic diseases, and the development of neoplastic disorders. The course enables students to understand the pathogenesis of diseases, interpret pathological changes affecting the oral and maxillofacial tissues, and apply pathological principles in dental practice.
This course covers the fundamental principles of general pathology, including cell injury and adaptation, disorders of fluid and electrolyte balance, edema, hyperemia, congestion, hemorrhage, thrombosis, inflammation, and wound healing. It also addresses necrosis and apoptosis, immune responses and immunopathological disorders, immunodeficiency, autoimmune diseases, metabolic and genetic diseases, and the definition, classification, and biological behavior of neoplasms. In addition, the course examines cancer epidemiology, carcinogenesis, and the pathological features of benign, malignant, and epithelial tumors, with emphasis on concepts relevant to oral and maxillofacial diseases.
