Objectives of the Course

This course aims to provide dental students with fundamental knowledge of the pathology of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region, including their etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, and differential diagnosis. The course enables students to recognize inflammatory, developmental, cystic, neoplastic, and infectious lesions and apply pathological principles to clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient management.

Course Content

This course covers the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, histopathological features, and differential diagnosis of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. Topics include osteomyelitis, dental abscesses, head and neck infections, inflammatory lesions of the oral and maxillofacial region, ulcerative lesions of the oral cavity, blastomatous lesions, epulis, developmental disorders and lesions of the tongue, gingiva, and oral mucosa, white lesions of the oral mucosa, oral carcinomas, odontogenic tumors, cysts of the head, neck, and jaws, salivary gland lesions and tumors, and viral diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. The course emphasizes the integration of pathological findings with clinical diagnosis and patient management in dental practice.
