Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide dental students with knowledge of children's rights, child protection systems, family education, child abuse and neglect, effective communication with children, ethical and legal responsibilities, and to develop professional awareness for delivering family-centered, rights-based, and multidisciplinary oral healthcare services.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental principles of children's rights, national and international child rights regulations, child protection systems, principles of family education, child development, parenting styles, recognition of child abuse and neglect, dentists' legal reporting obligations, communication with pediatric patients, rights of children with special healthcare needs, ethical principles, and family involvement in oral healthcare. Current case discussions are used to strengthen students' professional awareness of children's rights.

1.Explains the fundamental national and international regulations regarding children's rights.
2.Evaluates the effects of child development, family education, and parenting styles on oral and dental health.
3.Demonstrates effective, ethical, and patient-centered communication with pediatric patients and their families.
4.Identifies the clinical signs of child abuse and neglect and plans appropriate actions when necessary.
5.Applies children's rights and the ethical and legal responsibilities of dentists in professional practice.
6.Evaluates the importance of family involvement in maintaining and promoting oral health and develops recommendations for preventive oral health education
