Objectives of the Course

To enable students to recognize childhood-specific behavior problems within the context of theoretical approaches, to understand the clinical nature and potential causes of behavior problems; to learn methods of planning and implementing intervention strategies appropriate to ethical principles for children and their families by using formal and informal data collection methods and functional assessment techniques.

Course Content

Theoretical approaches in behavior management (classical and operant conditioning, social cognitive learning, psychodynamic, bioecological, and humanistic theories); behavior problems and their clinical characteristics in typically developing and special needs children; formal-informal data collection, record-keeping, and systematic observation; functional assessment methods and data analysis; behavioral intervention strategies, use of reinforcement, positive behavior support processes, and ethical principles in developing intervention plans.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Explains behavior management processes and behavioral problems within the context of basic theoretical approaches.
2.Examines behavioral problems in typically developing and children with special needs in terms of their clinical characteristics and possible causes.
3.Explains formal and informal data collection methods and record-keeping techniques that can be used to determine the function of problem behaviors.
4.Plans positive behavior development processes by using behavior modification strategies and reinforcement techniques.
5.Designs and evaluates behavioral intervention plans for children and families in accordance with ethical principles.
