Objectives of the Course

Inform students about the causes and types of globally accelerating labour migrations . Analyse effects of international labour migration on economies of developed and developing countries . Inform students on the new studies and approaches in the subject.

Course Content

Introduction and Overview of International Migration : Key Concepts, Types of Migration, General Overview of Theories of International Labour Migration, Neo Classical Approach Dual Labour Markets Approach Demographic Approach, New International Division of Labour and Migration, Explanation of Migration From the Perspective of Capital Accumulation, Domestic and International Migrations in Turkey.

1.Become aware of the current debates in the migration literature which is gaining importance parallel to the increasing internal/international migrations.
2.Analyse and compare the causes of migration in terms of different theories.
3.Understand the role of migrants in the economies of developed and developing countries.
4.Become aware of economic and social problems migrants face in the host societies
5.Be informed about Turkey’s position as an emigration as well as an immigration country.
