Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to convey the principles of financial management in maritime enterprises, the economic operations of maritime trade markets, and sectoral financing mechanisms to students. Within the scope of the course, it aims to provide managerial decision-making competence within the framework of supply-demand and freight rate formation in the shipping sector, fund raising methods from money and capital markets, examination of financial statements through ratio analysis, control of vessel running costs, and risk-return analysis in maritime investments.

Course Content

The content of the course begins with the core concepts of financial management and its strategic importance in the maritime industry, encompassing the structure of maritime trade markets and freight market dynamics. Accordingly, sourcing processes in maritime enterprises, money and capital market instruments, financial statement analysis, and ratio applications are examined. Additionally, vessel operating cost structures (running costs), Turkey-oriented maritime financing models, return and risk analysis of investment projects, and contemporary approaches in maritime finance are addressed.
