Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to give basic information about philosophy, to explain the meaning and scope of sports philosophy, to give information about the fields of sports philosophy, to explain the phenomena of fair play and olympism, to gain knowledge and skills to compare the organisational structures and functioning of the ancient Olympic Games and modern Olympic Games. It is also aimed to develop the written and oral transfer of philosophical thinking specific to sport while showing the ability to look at the phenomenon of sport beyond being an event.

Course Content

The examination of sport in a philosophical context, questioning ethical and aesthetic values in sport, and the content of creating meaning through sport constitute the main field of study. It covers the historical development of Olympism and Olympic values education.

Learning Outcomes
1.Defines the basic concepts of philosophy, sport science, sport philosophy, olympism and fair play.
2.Discusses the relationship between philosophy and philosophy of sport.
3.Compares the structure and functioning of the ancient Olympic Games and modern Olympic Games.
4.Expresses his/her knowledge and thoughts about the subject fluently and comprehensibly in written and oral form.
5.Knows and can explain sports ethics and moral problems in sports.
