Objectives of the Course

To teach sign language used by hearing-impaired individuals and to gain the necessary skills to use the language in social life.

Course Content

Definition of TID, The position of the body shapes of the hand and finger gestures in the hands function, The use of single and double hand signs with Turkish relations, Hand-body harmony harmony of facial expression-message, Using sign language with spoken language to exaggerate lip movements, Using sign language with spoken language to exaggerate lip movements, Greetings asking how, TID hearing-impaired individuals to communicate using, TID hearing-impaired individuals to communicate using, Transferring thoughts and feelings, Understanding the opposite side.

Learning Outcomes
1.Knows and uses Turkish Sign Language (TID) and American Sign Language (ASL) finger alphabet.
2.Türk İşaret Dilindeki temel işaretleri ve mimikleri bilir ve kullanır.
3.Knows and uses the basic signs in American Sign Language.
4.Gains the ability to communicate with hearing impaired individuals and help them in daily life.
5.Transfer Turkish expressions used in daily life to Turkish sign language and Turkish expressions in Turkish sign language to Turkish.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Meeting with students, introduction of the course content
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Definition of Turkish sign language, representation of Turkish sign language alphabet
Week 3 - Practice
The importance of body language and gestures, hand-body harmony, personal pronouns, interrogative pronouns, greetings, self-introduction
Week 4 - Practice
Demonstration of the concepts of family and environment, application in sentences
Week 5 - Practice
Demonstration of our body and health terms, application in sentences
Week 6 - Practice
Demonstration of verbs and their application in sentences
Week 7 - Practice
Showing antonyms, numbers and time expressions and applying them in sentences
Week 8 - Theoretical
Midterm exam
Week 9 - Practice
Demonstration of school, educational and occupational signs and their application in sentences
Week 10 - Practice
Showing the signs of emotions and colours and applying them in sentences

Showing the signs of plant and animal names and applying them in sentences
