Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to analyze family policies within the discipline of social policy by examining the changing social and demographic structure of the family. It aims to comparatively evaluate national and international family policies in areas such as care work, gender roles, and the welfare of children and the elderly. Students are also expected to develop family policy proposals that contribute to inclusive, equitable, and sustainable social welfare systems.

Course Content

The social role and evolving structure of the family; main theoretical approaches to family in social policy; the relationship between family types and welfare regimes; family policies addressing fertility, parental leave, child and elderly care, income support, domestic violence, and gender equality; comparative analysis of policy models implemented in Turkey and other countries.
