Objectives of the Course

The course aims to provide students with information about the past and current state of the Turkish economy. It aims to equip them with the ability to understand, interpret, and solve problems arising from economic events that occurred during the Republican era and those that may arise in the future.

Course Content

The course provides students with the necessary historical, institutional, and structural framework to analyze the main characteristics of the current problems in the Turkish economy. In this context, processes and concepts such as national economy, statism, liberal adjustment, the import substitution era, the period of open capital dominance, financialization, and hot money dominance will be examined in detail.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to interpret Turkey's basic social and economic indicators as well as analyze developments related to economic and human development.
2.To be able to explain developments regarding national income level, income distribution and economic growth and make international comparisons.
3.To be able to explain developments in public economics and interpret fiscal (revenue and expenditure) policy practices.
4.To be able to define the structural transformation in the Turkish economy by explaining the developments in three main sectors (agriculture, industry and services) according to periods.
5.To be able to explain the economic crises and stability decisions taken in Turkey and to evaluate the economic policies (especially monetary policies) followed.
6.To be able to explain the developments in indicators related to Turkey's foreign economic relations and analyze the policies followed.
