Department of Food Hygiene and Technology gives subjects both theoretical and practical related with food hygiene, milk and dairy products processing technologies, meat and meat products technologies, meat inspection and meat quality, veterinary public health, water hygiene, marine food products technologies, animal welfare, food quality control systems.
History
Department of Food Hygiene and Technology was established under the Division of Infections and Clinical Sciences in 1994. Then the number of divisions at the faculty increased from 4 to 5 by establishing a new division called Division of Food Hygiene and Technology containing Department of Food Hygiene and Technology. At the moment, the head of the department is Prof. Dr. Ergün Ö. GÖKSOY
Mission
The mission of the department is to give sufficient up dated theoretical and practical data to the students related with meat inspection and meat processing technologies, milk and dairy products technologies, quality and safety, food quality control systems, animal welfare, poultry meat and hygiene, veterinary public health. Beside this, department also has a mission to provide sufficient knowledge to the students regarding to life-long learning, updating the technological data after their graduation.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Food Hygiene and Technology is to be a fully equipped department with its laboratory features and academic personnel who are able to follow the developments occurring in the field, to conduct researches internationally followed and to graduate experts in this field.
Purpose
The aim of the department is to give sufficient knowledge to veterinary students related with meat inspection and meat processing technologies, milk and dairy products technologies, quality and safety, food quality control systems, animal welfare, poultry meat and hygiene, veterinary public health. The department also aims to be a well-known establishment in the food sector located in Aydın region.
Physical Infrastructure
Equipments of the department include 1 Gerber centrifuge, 4 refrigerators, 1 deep freezer, 1 microcentrifuge, 1 air sterilisation equipment, 1 sensitive scale, 1 pH meter, 1 water bath, 2 incubators (cooling), 2 incubators (normal), 1 distilled water machine, 1 washer, 1 magnetic stirrer, 1 soxhelet henkel equipment, 1 ELISA reader, 1 ELISA washer, 1 vortex, 1 membrane filtration equipment.
Technical Infrastructure
The department has 1 registration office, 1 chemical, 1 molecular and 1 microbiological analysis laboratories. Department also has a sterilisation and a safe room.
