Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to examine the relationship between history teaching and cultural literacy through both theoretical and practical perspectives, enabling students to evaluate issues such as cultural heritage, identity, collective memory, values, and cultural diversity within historical contexts. The course explores the role of history education in cultural transmission and the development of cultural awareness, while fostering students’ abilities to analyze different cultures from a historical perspective, critically interpret cultural elements, and integrate cultural literacy skills into history teaching and learning processes.

Course Content

This course examines the relationship between history teaching and cultural literacy through an interdisciplinary perspective. It explores concepts such as culture, cultural literacy, cultural heritage, identity, collective memory, multiculturalism, and intercultural interaction within the context of history education. The course evaluates the role of history teaching in transmitting cultural values, fostering cultural awareness, and promoting understanding of diverse cultures. It also addresses the use of historical sources, museums, monuments, oral history studies, and digital cultural resources in developing cultural literacy skills. Throughout the course, students gain the ability to analyze cultural elements within their historical contexts, critically evaluate cultural representations, and design history teaching practices that support cultural literacy.
