Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to teach innovations, research areas and applications to young researchers with social and ethical dimensions since nanoscience and nanotechnology are interdisciplinary and rapidly developing disciplines.

To address innovations, research areas and applications in the interdisciplinary and rapidly developing field of nanoscience with a social and ethical dimension.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to know the historical development of nanoscience and nanotechnology and aware of the rapid developments in the current situation.
2.To be able to comprehend the subject's area of expertise and interdisciplinary interaction.
3.To be able to report research areas and applications of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
4.To be able to prepare a small research project suitable for his/her field on nanoscience and nanotechnology, society and related social issues.
5.To be able to conduct research on nanotechnology teaching in middle school and presents this research.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Introduction to nanoscience. What is nanotechnology?
Week 2 - Theoretical
History of nanoscience. The main definitions of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Size matters.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Nanoparticles are everywhere. Advantages of nanotechnology.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Raw materials of nanotechnology.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Carbon nanostructures. Examples of carbon nanostructures: nanoparticles, nanotubes, fullerenes, et al., application and examples of combining different structures.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Functional nanostructures.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Life sciences and health applications of functional nanostructures. Bionanotechnology and biomedical nanotechnology.

Nanotoxicology (Midterm exam)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Social, economic, and societal considerations at the beginning of the Nano Revolution. Professional and ethical responsibility awareness, reconsideration of standards and legislation
Week 10 - Theoretical
Ethical principles and policies
Week 11 - Theoretical
Examination of studies on nanotechnology teaching.
Week 12 - Theoretical
Examination of international nanotechnology teaching projects.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Examining the activities that can be used in teaching nanotechnology.

Preparation of a program that can be used at secondary school level for teaching nanotechnology.
