Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to develop students’ academic writing, critical thinking, and scientific research skills. It is intended to enable students to understand the structure of academic texts, use referencing styles, critically evaluate scientific sources, and prepare research proposals and academic texts in the field of tourism management in accordance with ethical principles.

Course Content

This course covers academic writing and critical thinking, the academic writing process and techniques, access to academic sources, referencing styles (APA, Chicago, Harvard, MLA), the structure of academic texts, literature review and synthesis, evaluation of research methods, writing the findings, discussion, and conclusion sections, as well as academic article analysis and research proposal preparation. Within the scope of the course, students examine academic studies in the field of tourism and develop their critical writing and analytical skills.

Learning Outcomes
1.Students will be able to explain and apply the fundamental principles of the academic writing process and the structural features of scientific texts.
2.Students will be able to critically analyze academic studies in the field of tourism management and evaluate their research problems, methods, and findings.
3.Students will be able to cite scientific sources accurately and consistently using different academic referencing styles, particularly APA 7th edition.
4.Students will be able to synthesize information obtained through a literature review and present it systematically within an academic text.
5.Students will be able to develop a research proposal in accordance with academic ethical principles, prepare a report in line with scientific writing standards, and present their findings at an academic level.
