Tourism Management Doctorate - Regular Education
Education System
The Doctoral Program of Tourism Management is comprised of total 240 ECTS (60 ECTS credits, 8 courses (24 national credits), seminar course, proficiency exam, dissertation proposal, specialized field topics and dissertation study) for those holding postgraduate (masters with thesis) diploma and 300 ECTS (14 courses (42 national credits), seminar course, proficiency exam, dissertation proposal, specialized field topics and dissertation study) for those holding bachelor's degree. Seminar courses, special fields of topics and dissertation study are non- credit and they are evaluated as "successful" and "unsuccessful". Doctoral students may choose three of the courses at most from postgraduate level provided that they have not taken during their graduate education.
Terms of Exchange and Transition Programs
Each program in department of business of tourism are at different levels, For this reason, it is not possible to transfer or exchange among programs in the department. But transfer and exchange between similar programs from other universities need approval of department’s academic committee.

Specific Admission Requirements
In order to apply for the Doctoral Program of Tourism Management:
1. It is necessary for applicants to have a bachelor's degree or postgraduate diploma in a program approved by Department of Tourism Management and Board of Instıtute Management.
2. Applicants have to have either bachelor's degree or master's degree in tourism field.
3. Applicants having postgraduate diploma have to get at least 55 points and applicants applying with bachelor's degree have to get at least 80 points from Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES-EA).
4. Applicants applying for doctoral program with bachelor's degree have to have 3 out of 4 grade point average or equal points; applicant applying for doctoral program with postgraduate diploma have to have at least 75 points.
5. Applicants have to get at least 55 points in English in YDS (Foreign Language Exam) or equal points from an alternative forms accepted by OSYM (Assessment Selection and Placement Center)
6. Applicants having graduated from postgraduate programs and applying for the doctoral program breaking off an academic term at most are not asked for ALES document (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam.
7. While applying for The Doctoral Program of Tourism Management, applicants have to prepare their original bachelor's degree or postgraduate diploma and/or true copy of the original approved by the university; grade point average of their bachelor's degree and/or postgraduate diploma and transcript; exam results of ALES or alternative forms internationally accepted; exam results of YDS or alternative forms internationally accepted.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning
The equivalance of the courses succeded by students in the prior doctorate programs and which semester they should start are determined after proposal of Department of Tourism Management and decision of Board of Institute Management. In the Lateral Transfer, all the courses taken have to be succeeded and at least 75 grade point average.
Profile of The Programme
Completion period of the Doctoral Program of Tourism Management is at least ten academic terms for the graduate students admitted to the program with bachelor's degree and fourteen academic terms at most, at least eight academic terms for postgraduate students admitted to the program and twelve academic terms at most. Education language of the program is Turkish.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates could be employed in different tourism establishment and departments of tourism such as hotels, marinas, airlines, restaurants, thermal tourism centers, travel agencies, tour operators, convention centers, airlines and charter business, maritime organizations, Ministry of Tourism, local organization involving tourism and academic career.
Access to Further Studies
It is possible to attend post-doctorate programs.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students have two exams (midterm exam-final exam) during each semesters. Total point of 40% of midterm exam and 60% of finbal exam must be at least 75 to be successful. Exams could be done oral and/or written, applied ormixed way. Students are informed about the evaluation of the exams at the beginning of semester. Table shows assessment of evaluation in double and four point grading systems.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate,student should have total 240 ECTS (60 ECTS credits, 8 courses (24 national credits), seminar course, proficiency exam, dissertation proposal, specialized field topics and dissertation study) for those holding postgraduate (masters with thesis) diploma and defend the thesis successfully ; 300 ECTS (90 ECTS credits, 14 courses (42 national credits), seminar course, proficiency exam, dissertation proposal, specialized field topics and dissertation study) for those holding bachelor's degree and defend the thesis successfully.
Work Placement
There is no obligatory internship in the program.
