Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to identify the civilizations and elements of cultural heritage that developed in Anatolia following the Hellenistic period, and to assess the heritage of the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Beylik, Ottoman, and Republican eras within the context of cultural routes and tourism. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to relate the various historical periods in Anatolia to cultural heritage sites and tourist routes.

Course Content

This course covers topics aimed at examining the cultural heritage of Anatolia following the Hellenistic period—including the Roman, Byzantine, Turkic-Islamic, Anatolian Seljuk, Beylik, Ottoman, and Republican eras—through the lens of cities, architectural structures, places of worship, trade routes, caravanserais, traditional urban fabrics, and examples of cultural routes from these periods.
