Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
The concept of an active lifestyle, healthy living, quality of life, an active lifestyle, and the importance of an active lifestyle culture in the tourism and recreation sector. Assessing students’ daily physical activity habits; developing an active lifestyle awareness questionnaire; setting personal active lifestyle goals.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
The individual and societal importance of an active lifestyle; the physical, mental, and social effects of a sedentary lifestyle; the relationship between public health and an active lifestyle. Initiatives to increase physical activity in daily life; a short walking program on campus; discussion of examples of simple activities that promote an active lifestyle.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Healthy lifestyle habits: balanced nutrition, sleep, stress management, personal care, and avoiding harmful habits. Creating a weekly healthy lifestyle plan; developing a sample daily routine; practicing breathing and relaxation exercises to reduce stress.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
The concepts of physical activity, exercise, and sports; walking, running, cycling, swimming, hiking, and basic types of exercise. Warm-ups, stretching, and basic physical activity practices; low-intensity group exercises; application of safety principles for movement.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
The relationship between recreation and an active lifestyle; leisure time activities, individual and group recreation, outdoor and indoor activities. Group-based recreational games; outdoor activity design; students conducting short recreational activities in small groups.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Nature-based outdoor activities: nature walks, hiking, camping, biking, orienteering, water sports, and highland activities. Designing nature walk routes for the local area; route safety, rest stop planning, and duration planning; basic orienteering/navigation exercises.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Active lifestyle programs in tourism; sports and recreational services at hotels, hiking trails, biking trails, outdoor activities, and destination experiences. Developing a list of active lifestyle activities for a hotel, resort, or destination; selecting activities based on the target audience; creating a sample daily activity schedule.
Week 8 - Intermediate Exam
Assessment of the theoretical and practical topics covered in Weeks 1–7. A midterm exam will be administered covering active living, healthy lifestyle behaviors, physical activity, and applications of active living in recreation and tourism.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Quality of life and well-being; physical, mental, and social well-being; the relationship between happiness, balance, self-awareness, and an active lifestyle. A study on assessing personal well-being; simple mindfulness exercises focused on mental well-being; an evaluation of the relationship between an active lifestyle and well-being through group work.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Active living across different age groups; activity approaches for children, adolescents, adults, older adults, and individuals with special needs. Activity adaptation for different age groups; designing sample active living programs for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
Active living and accessibility; active living for everyone, and inclusive recreational activities for people with disabilities, older adults, and those with limited mobility. Accessible activity design; developing examples of activities suitable for people with disabilities and older adults; planning for venue, duration, safety, and support needs.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Safety and risk management in active lifestyle activities; pre-activity preparation, equipment, environmental risks, injury risks, and first aid awareness. Preparing an activity risk analysis form; developing a safety plan for a sample hiking/recreational activity; preparing an equipment checklist.
Week 13 - Theoretical & Practice
Planning an active lifestyle program: target audience, activity selection, duration, venue, equipment, budget, safety, sustainability, and evaluation. Students developing an active lifestyle program in groups: presenting the program’s purpose, target audience, implementation process, safety measures, and evaluation criteria.
Week 14 - Theoretical & Practice
A comprehensive review of all theoretical and practical topics covered in the course.
Week 15 - Final Exam
A final exam will be administered covering active lifestyle culture, healthy lifestyle behaviors, recreation, active lifestyle practices in tourism, accessibility, safety, and program planning.
