Objectives of the Course

Resmi ve Akademik İngilizce: Course Objective: The objective of this course is to convey the philosophy, hierarchy, and documentation infrastructure of process management, which forms the core foundation of the manufacturing and quality control industries, to students. Within the scope of this course, it is aimed for students to acquire the skills to define a process with its core elements (inputs, outputs, resources, KPIs), prepare process definition forms (fact sheets) in compliance with ISO 9001 standards, design process flowcharts, draft corporate procedures, and develop improvement proposals by performing process effectiveness and efficiency analyses.

Course Content

The concept of process management, its evolution, and its relationship with Total Quality Management; core elements, characteristics, classification, and hierarchy of processes; process interaction matrices and documentation principles; the architecture of Process Definition Forms (Process Fact Sheets); designing Process Flowcharts using standardized symbols; drafting techniques for corporate Process Procedures; effectiveness, efficiency, and continuous improvement (PDCA) methodologies in processes; industrial process application case studies.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Ins. Evrim ÇEVİK
Learning Outcomes
1.Explain the concept of process management, its hierarchy, characteristics, and its strategic importance within Total Quality Management.
2.Prepare a standardized Process Definition Form by identifying the inputs, outputs, resources, risks, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of a manufacturing or quality control process.
3.Analyze process steps, responsibilities, and approval mechanisms in a logical sequence, and design a Process Flowchart utilizing international standard symbols.
4.Draft Process Procedures and work instructions written in a formal, corporate, and technical language that complies with quality management standards.
5.Measure the effectiveness and efficiency of an existing business process, and document preventive actions aimed at improving the process by detecting bottlenecks.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Course introduction and an introduction to process management. Application: Case study analysis examining the differences between process-oriented management and traditional functional management within an enterprise.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Evolution of process management. Application: Group discussion analyzing the chronological evolution of process logic in industrial history and its current role in modern quality systems.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: The role of process management within Total Quality Management (TQM). Application: Case study on integrating continuous improvement (PDCA) and customer-focus principles with process management.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: The concept of a process and its core elements (Inputs, Outputs, Suppliers, Customers, Resources). Application: Mapping and listing the structural components of an Incoming Quality Control process using the SIPOC framework in class.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Characteristics and classification of processes (Core, Support, and Management Processes). Application: Classwork categorizing all operational activities within a metal manufacturing facility into core, support, and management processes.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Process hierarchy and interaction. Application: Mapping process-subprocess-activity breakdowns and designing a corporate Process Interaction Matrix.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Process documentation (Documentation hierarchy, standards, and rules). Application: Demonstrating document coding, revision tracking, and archiving protocols in Quality Management Systems using sample templates.
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Midterm Exam / Process Definition Forms. Application: An applied midterm exam assignment where students fill out a comprehensive Process Definition Form (Process Fact Sheet) based on a given manufacturing scenario.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Process Flowcharts (Flowcharting rules and standardized symbols). Application: Designing a fundamental approval/rejection flowchart utilizing diagramming software (Visio, Lucidchart, etc.) or standard templates.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Process Procedures (Structure of a procedure: Purpose, Scope, Responsibilities, Definitions, Implementation). Application: Reviewing a standardized corporate procedure template and practicing formal corporate writing style.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Integrated flowcharting and procedure drafting. Application: Synchronous development of both the Process Flowchart and the written Procedure for a "Non-Conforming Product Management" or "Device Calibration" process.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Process effectiveness and efficiency (Process Key Performance Indicators - KPIs). Application: Hands-on exercises calculating process performance indexes using real-world operational data such as scrap rates, production speed, and inspection cycle times.
Week 13 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Process improvement (Bottleneck analysis and continuous improvement steps). Application: Performing a root-cause analysis on an underperforming, slow-paced quality control process and documenting its systematic improvement plan.
Week 14 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Process application case studies (Industrial best practices and general course review). Application: In-class peer evaluation of the "Comprehensive Process Documentation Portfolios" compiled throughout the semester, consisting of completed process forms, flowcharts, and procedures.
