Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to teach students the rules of technical drawing, which is a common technical language in industrial production. Students will gain the competence to draw in accordance with standards, express geometric forms using projection methods, and apply sectional views, dimensioning, surface texture, and tolerance concepts to technical drawings.

Course Content

The course covers technical drawing foundations, including projection methods, sectional views, dimensioning, and tolerancing based on industrial standards. Over a 14-week period, the technical process ranging from manual sketches to modern assembly drawings is addressed through theoretical lectures and intensive practical applications.

3.Performs dimensioning in accordance with technical drawing rules and adds surface texture symbols.
4.Expresses dimension and form tolerances on technical drawings using correct symbols and standards.
5.Creates industrial assembly drawings based on detail drawings and provides technical documentation.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
Fundamentals: The role and importance of technical drawing in the industry, drawing tools, lettering, numbers, and line types are covered theoretically. Practice: Line exercises and standard lettering practices are conducted.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Geometric Drawings: Construction of basic geometric shapes and fundamental drawing rules on a plane are explained. Practice: Geometric drawing applications are carried out.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Projection Concept: Definition of projection, planes, and projection classifications are explained theoretically. Practice: Projection drawings of basic forms are performed.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Projection and Views: Transferring objects into views using projection rules is explained. Practice: Projection and view extraction applications of simple parts are performed.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
View Extraction: Selection of views for complex parts and methods for extracting views according to standards are covered. Practice: View extraction exercises for different parts are performed.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Sectioning: Purpose of sectional views, section planes, and types (full, half, stepped) are covered theoretically. Practice: Sectioning applications on parts are performed.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Dimensioning-I: Rules of dimensioning, numbers, arrows, and the use of auxiliary lines are explained. Practice: Basic dimensioning applications on parts are performed.
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Dimensioning-II: Logic and systematic approach to dimensioning complex parts are covered. Practice: Advanced applications on dimensioning techniques are performed.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Surface Roughness-I: Definition of surface roughness, basic parameters such as $R_a$ and $R_z$, and the meanings of symbols in technical drawings are presented theoretically. Practice: Placement of roughness symbols on part surfaces in accordance with technical drawing standards is performed.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Surface Roughness and Tolerances: Selection of roughness values, their relationship with machining methods, and their context with tolerances are covered. Practice: Determination of appropriate roughness values according to various manufacturing methods and their application to technical drawings along with tolerances are ensured.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
Tolerances: Dimension and form tolerances, fit systems (clearance, transition, interference) are explained theoretically. Practice: Tolerance calculation and applications of transferring to technical drawings are performed.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Detail Drawing: Preparation of drafting/detail drawings for individual parts forming an assembly group is covered. Practice: Creating detail drawings exercises are performed.
Week 13 - Theoretical & Practice
Detail and Assembly Drawing: Process of transitioning from detail drawings to assembly drawings is explained. Practice: Exercises on bringing detail drawings into assembly form are performed.
Week 14 - Theoretical & Practice
Assembly Drawing: Views in assembly drawings, parts lists, and rules for assembly drawings are covered. Practice: Drawing an assembly drawing of a complete machine group is performed.
