The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS), the most widely implemented quality management standard in industry, including all of its requirements, and to develop practical competence in auditing management systems in accordance with the ISO 19011 guidelines. Throughout the course, students are expected to acquire the ability to conduct organizational context analysis, manage processes using risk-based thinking, identify and document nonconformities in production environments, initiate corrective actions, and successfully perform professional internal and external audits—from planning and execution to reporting—either as auditors or auditees.
Quality concepts, quality gurus, and the fundamentals of standardization; the High-Level Structure (HLS) of ISO 9001:2015 and all management system requirements (Clauses 4–10) based on the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) cycle; Integrated Management Systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001); management system auditing in accordance with ISO 19011; auditor competencies; preparation of audit programs and checklists; opening and closing meetings; on-site auditing; identification and classification of audit findings (major and minor nonconformities); and preparation of professional technical audit reports.
| 1. | Explain the relationship between standardization, certification, and accreditation, and demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles and the High-Level Structure (HLS) of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System standard. |
| 2. | Analyze the organizational context, interested parties and their expectations, quality policy, and quality objectives of a manufacturing organization, and document these elements in accordance with the relevant requirements of the ISO 9001 standard. |
| 3. | Analyze nonconformities occurring in manufacturing operations or quality control processes, perform root cause analysis, and prepare a Corrective Action Report (CAR) in accordance with ISO 9001 Clause 10 (Improvement). |
| 4. | Plan a management system audit program in accordance with the ISO 19011 auditing guidelines and develop professional audit checklists tailored to the processes being audited. |
| 5. | Simulate the stages of an audit—including the opening meeting, on-site audit, and closing meeting—evaluate objective audit evidence, and prepare a professional technical audit report in accordance with internationally recognized auditing practices. |
