Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to equip students with the fundamental concepts, strategies, and modern approaches to marketing from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to develop their skills in analyzing the market environment, understanding consumer behavior, strategically managing the elements of the marketing mix (4Ps), and keeping up with current marketing trends in the digital world. In this context, the course aims to enable associate degree students to adapt quickly to the dynamics of the business world by developing the competence to transform theoretical knowledge into practical applications through industry-oriented activities such as conducting market research, performing SWOT analyses, product design, and social media content planning.

Course Content

Definition, scope, and development of marketing; Fundamental concepts of marketing (need, want, demand, product, goods, service, value, etc.); Marketing approaches and changes in the marketing philosophy (production approach, product approach, sales approach, and marketing approach); Marketing environment and macro/micro factors (SWOT analysis); Marketing information system and marketing research; Consumer behavior and the purchasing decision process; Market segmentation, target market selection, and positioning; Brand management and branding strategies; Marketing mix (4P and 7P) and strategic planning; Product management and the product life cycle; New product development and innovation; Distribution channels and logistics management; New marketing trends in global marketing: Green marketing, digital marketing, and social media management.

Learning Outcomes
1.At the end of the course, the student explains the basic concepts of marketing, its historical development, and modern marketing approaches.
2.Explains the principles and requirements of market segmentation, and understands the selection and positioning of the target market.
3.Analyzes market research processes, consumer behaviors, and purchasing decision stages.
4.Evaluates the product life cycle, innovation processes, brand management, and packaging elements.
5.Develops pricing, distribution, and promotion strategies by integrating the elements of the marketing mix (4Ps and 7Ps).

Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
Definition, scope, and development of marketing / Practice: Examining the marketing development of a current brand.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Fundamental concepts of marketing / Application: An analysis of the importance of the concepts of needs, wants, and demand in marketing through a case study analysis.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Fundamental concepts of marketing / Application: Strategic analysis and discussion of the differences between the goods and services sectors.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Marketing approaches and changes in the marketing concept / Application: Examining the production approach, product approach, sales approach, and marketing approach, and discussing their effects on today's marketing approach.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
Marketing environment analysis (micro and macro environment) / Application: Analyzing and discussing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of a well-known brand by conducting a SWOT analysis.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Marketing information systems and marketing research / Application: Prepare a short 5-question survey that measures customer satisfaction with a well-known product or service.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Consumer behaviors and purchasing decision process / Application: Step-by-step mapping of the decision stages (need, research, alternatives, decision) of a product purchasing journey (customer journey).
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Market segmentation, target market determination and positioning / Application: Creating and analyzing a hypothetical ideal customer profile (age, occupation, areas of interest) card for a product brand.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Brand management and branding strategies / Application: Examining the packaging design, colors, and logo of a selected food product in terms of the feelings they evoke in consumers, and discussing it through slogan and corporate identity analysis.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Marketing mix (4Ps and 7Ps) and strategic planning / Implementation: Analysis and evaluation of product, price, distribution, and promotion strategies for a single product of a popular brand.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
Product management and product life cycle / Application: Discussion of the reasons behind a failed product and analysis of its position in the life cycle (introduction, growth, maturity, decline).
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
New product development and innovation / Application: Developing an innovative product idea by adding a new feature to an existing product on the market and simply drawing it on paper.
Week 13 - Theoretical & Practice
Distribution channels and logistics management / Application: Examining and analyzing the intermediaries (producer, wholesaler, logistics, retailer) that a vegetable or fruit passes through from the field to the market shelf, and drawing the flow chart with the help of arrows.
Week 14 - Theoretical & Practice
New marketing trends in global marketing: Green marketing, digital marketing, and social media management / Application: Preparing a content plan for the social media accounts of a well-known brand or examining the eco-friendly campaigns of a brand that claims to be sustainable, analyzing and discussing how genuine this claim is.
