Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is for students to grasp the fundamental principles of traditional and modern manufacturing methods, enabling them to gain the vision to contribute to method selection, process monitoring, and productivity-focused improvement initiatives as part of a technical team in a production environment.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental principles of traditional and modern manufacturing methods used for shaping metallic and non-metallic materials. The course encompasses plastic deformation (rolling, forging, drawing, press), casting (expendable and permanent mold), sheet metal processing, machining (milling, turning, drilling-cutting), and joining methods through technical and practical approaches. Furthermore, additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies are analyzed in comparison with traditional methods, focusing on process efficiency and continuous improvement. Students gain competence in selecting appropriate manufacturing methods, technical documentation, process management, and contributing operationally as part of a technical team in production environments.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the fundamental manufacturing processes applied to metallic and polymeric materials (casting, metal forming, machining, joining, and additive manufacturing) and compares their application areas.
2.Evaluates the effects of manufacturing processes on material properties, product quality, production cost, and manufacturing efficiency.
3.Identifies the machines, tools, dies, molds, and equipment used in different manufacturing processes and selects appropriate manufacturing methods.
4.Analyzes quality problems, defect types, and manufacturing imperfections that may occur during production processes.
5.Evaluates manufacturing processes by considering occupational health and safety, environmental, and quality requirements, and prepares technical reports.

Casting Methods-II: Casting into permanent molds (die, gravity, centrifugal, etc.).

Sheet Metal Cutting: Sheet metal cutting methods and mechanisms.

Sheet Metal Forming: Bending and forming techniques for sheet metal.
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Machining-I: Milling technologies and process management.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Machining-II: Turning operations and machine parameters.
