Learning Outcomes
.Explains the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the respiratory system, as well as the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, and current treatment approaches for respiratory system diseases, based on scientific principles.
.Conducts a physical assessment of the individual with respiratory system diseases; determines care needs by interpreting laboratory findings, blood gas analyses, and diagnostic data; and develops an evidence-based care plan.
.Operates the equipment used in oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiratory physiotherapy, and non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation in a safe and effective manner—adhering to patient safety principles—and manages the care process.
.Plans and evaluates the home care needs of individuals with pneumonia, tuberculosis, asthma, COPD, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, pulmonary thromboembolism, pulmonary hypertension, and respiratory failure, in accordance with ethical and legal principles, a multidisciplinary team approach, and a quality-of-life perspective.
.Develops solutions to encountered problems by incorporating skills—such as the prevention and early diagnosis of respiratory system diseases, patient and family education, infection control, communication, teamwork, monitoring scientific developments, and the use of technology—into professional practice.
