Objectives of the Course

The aim is to provide the fundamental knowledge and skills required to determine the monitoring and care needs of patients with urinary system diseases, implement appropriate care approaches, and prevent complications.

Course Content

This course covers the anatomy and physiology of the urinary system, assessment and monitoring methods, lower and upper urinary tract infections, vascular renal diseases, nephrotic syndrome, polycystic kidney disease, and acute and chronic renal failure. Additionally, renal replacement therapy options, the dialysis process and nutrition, kidney transplantation, and care approaches for these conditions are examined.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains and evaluates the anatomy and physiology of the urinary system, the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, and current treatment approaches of urinary system diseases based on scientific principles.
2.Assesses the physiological, psychological, and social status of individuals with urinary system diseases using a holistic approach, identifies care needs, analyzes data, and develops evidence-based care plans.
3.Plans, implements, and evaluates safe, ethical, and high-quality nursing care for individuals with cystitis, pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis, vascular kidney diseases, nephrotic syndrome, polycystic kidney disease, and acute or chronic kidney failure.
4.Manages the care processes of individuals undergoing hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation in accordance with patient safety, infection control, teamwork, patient education, and home care principles.
5.Critically evaluates problems related to the prevention of urinary system diseases, reduction of complications, patient and family education, environmental arrangements, legal responsibilities, and support systems, and develops evidence-based solutions while contributing to professional development.
