Objectives of the Course

To teach students the fundamental concepts of genetics, the structure of DNA and genes, mechanisms of inheritance, genetic diversity, and basic genetic processes at the population level; and to enable them to interpret this knowledge within the context of laboratory sciences and relate it to fundamental biological phenomena.

Course Content

This course covers the introduction to genetics and its fundamental concepts, the structure of DNA and RNA, DNA replication, gene and chromosome organization, cell division (mitosis and meiosis), Mendelian genetics and principles of inheritance, genotype–phenotype relationships, mutations and genetic changes, basic mechanisms of gene expression, genetic variations and hereditary differences, population genetics, and the overall importance of genetics within laboratory sciences

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the fundamental concepts of genetics, as well as the structure of DNA and genes.
2.Compares and interprets the processes of cell division (mitosis and meiosis).
3.Explains the genotype–phenotype relationship in line with Mendelian genetics and the principles of inheritance.
4.Explains the fundamental causes of mutations, genetic variations, and hereditary differences.
5.Defines and interprets the basic concepts of population genetics (gene pool, allele frequency).
