Objectives of the Course

To teach the fundamental concepts of biology, the structural and functional characteristics of living organisms, cellular organization, mechanisms of inheritance, and the classification of living things; and to enable students to evaluate biological phenomena from a scientific perspective.

Course Content

This course covers the definition of biology and its sub-disciplines, the common characteristics of living organisms, the basic components of life, the structure of the cell and its organelles, cell division, protein synthesis, classification of living organisms, rules of scientific nomenclature, domain and kingdom systems, geological time periods and the evolution of life, as well as biological weapons and biosecurity topics.
