Objectives of the Course

To enable students to learn the structure, operating principles, and usage techniques of the microscope; to develop skills in preparing slides and conducting microscopic examinations on different samples; and to help them understand the importance of the microscope in laboratory applications.

Course Content

This course covers the history of the microscope, its usage areas, types of microscopes and their operating principles, basic parts of the microscope, slide preparation methods, image acquisition techniques, microscopic examination of plant and animal cells, Gram staining methods, microscopic evaluation of bacteria, molds, and yeasts, examination of plant pigments, crystal structures, and starch granules, as well as microscopic analysis of plankton in water samples.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the basic parts of the microscope, its operating principles, and its usage areas.
2.Applies slide (specimen) preparation methods used in microscopic examinations.
3.Performs image acquisition, focusing, and evaluation under the microscope.
4.Distinguishes plant and animal cells as well as bacteria, yeast, and mold samples according to their microscopic characteristics.
5.Examines different biological and plant samples under the microscope and interprets and evaluates the observations.
