Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach students safe working practices in the microbiology laboratory, introduce basic microbiological analysis methods, provide knowledge about sampling and microbiological analysis procedures, and develop practical skills for the identification of microorganisms present in various samples

Course Content

This course covers the rules to be followed in the microbiology laboratory, laboratory tools, equipment and instruments, sources of microbial contamination, factors affecting microbial growth, culture media preparation and sterilization practices, sampling and sample transportation methods, microbiological inoculation techniques, indicator microorganisms, microorganisms found in food, water, and soil samples, total mesophilic aerobic bacterial counts, yeast and mold analyses, and the evaluation of microbiological analysis results.
