Objectives of the Course

The aim of the laboratory technologies program is to enable students to understand the fundamental concepts of chemistry, the structure and properties of matter, the development of atomic theories and to interpret the periodic table, to understand the properties of solutions and mixtures, to perform concentration calculations, and to know chemical reactions and perform basic calculations.

Course Content

he definition and fundamental concepts of chemistry, the historical development of alchemy and chemistry, the SI unit system, matter and its properties, the structure of the atom and atomic models, the periodic table, an introduction to chemical bonding, mixtures and solutions, the concept and units of concentration, methods of preparing solutions, chemical reactions, types of reactions, the concept of the mole, and stoichiometric calculations.

1.Understands the purpose of chemistry, the properties of matter, and its classification; uses the SI system of units and performs unit conversions.

3.Students can use the structure of the atom and the periodic table to identify chemical substances and compounds. They can understand the different types of chemical compounds and write their formulas and names.
4.Can prepare a solution by calculating the molar concentration

6.Gains knowledge of basic organic compounds.

Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice

The Concept of the Atom, Atomic Models and the Structure of the Atom / Designing atomic models of basic elements such as Sodium, Magnesium, Oxygen, and Carbon and showing their electron configurations.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
The Periodic Table and Periodic Properties/Locating Elements on the Periodic Table
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
The electronic structure of the atom, atomic masses, and the concept of the mole / Molecular weight and mole calculations
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Substances, Mixtures, and Their Classification/Preparation and Classification of Mixtures in the Laboratory

Compounds and Their Nomenclature, Chemical Formulas/Designing Chemical Formulas for Compounds and Calculating Molecular Weight and Valence Electron Count
