Objectives of the Course

To teach the formation, characteristics, and environmental impacts of wastewater; to provide the fundamental principles of physical, chemical, and biological processes used in wastewater treatment; and to provide basic knowledge regarding the operation of treatment systems.

Course Content

This course covers the definition and sources of wastewater, its characteristic properties and pollutant parameters; stages of wastewater treatment; preliminary, primary, secondary, and advanced treatment processes; physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods; sludge formation and disposal; disinfection methods; and the basic operating principles of treatment plants.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the formation, types, and basic characteristics of wastewater.
2.Explains wastewater treatment processes (preliminary, primary, secondary, and advanced treatment) along with their basic principles.
3.Compares physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods.
4.Interprets the operation of basic processes used in wastewater treatment (coagulation, flocculation, biological treatment, disinfection, etc.).
5.Evaluates the operating principles and environmental impacts of wastewater treatment plants.
