To introduce the concepts of biological warfare and bioterrorism, teach the classification, genetic structures, and mechanisms of action of biological agents; and to enable students to gain basic awareness of biological threats and understand defense strategies.
This course covers the definition of biological warfare and bioterrorism, the historical development of biological weapons, classification of biological agents, the genetic structures and mechanisms of action of bacterial, viral, and toxin-based agents, routes of entry into the body, detection and identification systems, active and passive defense methods, as well as examples of biological agent use in the world and in Türkiye.
