Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach the basic characteristics, classification, and areas of use of pot flowers, and to provide students with an understanding of the environmental and cultural factors affecting flowering. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to acquire knowledge and practical skills related to growing medium selection, irrigation, fertilization, repotting, pruning, propagation, and basic maintenance practices in flowering pot plants cultivated for their ornamental flower value.

Course Content

The course covers the definition, importance, areas of use, and classification of pot flowers; root, stem, leaf, bud, and flower structures; and the effects of light, temperature, humidity, ventilation, irrigation, drainage, growing medium, and fertilization on flowering. In addition, the course includes repotting, removal of faded flowers, pruning, plant shaping, and propagation practices; seasonal, perennial, bulbous, tuberous, and rhizomatous pot flowers; symptoms of diseases, pests, and physiological disorders; as well as quality characteristics, preparation for market or display, and post-sale maintenance principles in flowering pot plants.

5.Recognizes commonly cultivated flowering pot plants and proposes appropriate maintenance measures for disease, pest, and physiological disorder symptoms.
