Objectives of the Course

The aim is to teach various biotechnological methods and applications for effectively combating harmful organisms in agriculture and forestry. This course covers topics such as preventing damage caused by pests, the use of biological control mechanisms, genetic engineering, and the development of plants resistant to harmful organisms through biotechnology. Through this course, students are expected to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and apply modern technologies used in pest management. In addition, the course aims to support sustainable agricultural and forestry practices by offering alternative solutions to chemical control methods that may harm the environment and human health.

Course Content

The Biotechnical Control of Pests course teaches how agricultural pests can be managed and how interactions with their natural enemies can be utilized for pest control. This course includes methods such as biological control and integrated pest management. It provides students with knowledge about the biological characteristics of pests, their environmental impacts, and alternative control methods that reduce reliance on chemical pesticides. In addition, by following recent developments in biotechnology, students gain an understanding of genetic engineering and the use of biological control agents. The course supports the implementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly pest management practices in the agricultural sector.
