Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of entrepreneurship and business management, enable them to analytically identify business opportunities in the manufacturing sector, and equip them with the ability to document innovative business ideas using the internationally recognized Business Model Canvas. Throughout the course, students will learn the establishment processes of a business, its core functions, and financial and operational requirements. They will also gain practical experience in transforming their technical knowledge in production and quality control into commercial projects by integrating it with KOSGEB and the broader entrepreneurship ecosystem support mechanisms.

Course Content

The course covers the concepts of entrepreneurship and entrepreneur, factors of production and entrepreneurial motivations; the entrepreneurial process, idea generation, and creativity techniques; components and applications of the Business Model Canvas; the concept of business, types of businesses, company establishment stages, and legal procedures; core business functions (production, marketing, finance, etc.) as well as mission and vision design; characteristics of SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises), capacity concepts, and SWOT analysis; the entrepreneurship ecosystem, networking, and KOSGEB support programs; intellectual and industrial property rights; and business plan presentation techniques.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to explain the concept of entrepreneurship, its types, entrepreneurial motivations, and the roles of production factors in establishing a business.
2.To be able to develop an innovative and commercially viable business idea by analyzing market needs in the field.
3.To be able to document a developed business idea on a Business Model Canvas together with all its operational, financial, and customer-oriented components.
4.To be able to explain the legal establishment stages of a business, its organizational functions, SME dynamics, and grant/support mechanisms (such as KOSGEB).
5.To be able to prepare the business model of one's own business idea as a technical report in accordance with national and international standards, and to present it using investor pitch (pitch deck) techniques.

Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
Introduction to the course, concepts of venture and entrepreneurship, factors of production / Application: Examination of successful entrepreneurship examples and case analyses in the manufacturing and metal sectors.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Historical development of entrepreneurship, its economic importance and value creation / Application: Evaluation of industrial venture examples from different periods in terms of market success.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Characteristics, motivations and personal tendencies required in entrepreneurs / Application: Conducting personal entrepreneurship tendency tests for students and analyzing their profiles.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Macro/micro factors affecting entrepreneurship, barriers and reasons for failure / Application: Examination of ventures that have failed in the sector using the "root cause analysis" method and lessons learned.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
The entrepreneurship process, identifying market opportunities, developing business ideas and opportunity analyses / Application: Creating an initial business idea pool targeting market gaps in quality control and manufacturing technologies.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Creativity, innovation and business idea development techniques (Brainstorming, SCAMPER, etc.) / Application: Refining business ideas through creative thinking techniques for selected problem areas.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Types of entrepreneurship (intrapreneurship, social, commercial, etc.) and ways of becoming an entrepreneur (franchise, start-up) / Application: Matrix analysis of best practice examples from different venture types in the manufacturing sector.
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Midterm Exam and introduction to the business model concept / Application: Preliminary evaluation of developed business ideas and framing the logic of business model building blocks.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Business model development strategies and Business Model Canvas architecture / Application: Transferring the designed business idea onto a Business Model Canvas consisting of 9 building blocks and drafting it.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
The concept of a business, types of businesses, private enterprises and company incorporation processes / Application: Examination of the required legal documents, forms and procedures for establishing a sole proprietorship or limited liability company.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
Core functions of a business (Management, Finance, Marketing, Production, HR) / Application: Writing the Mission, Vision, Strategic Goals and Objectives documents for the planned venture.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Concept of capacity, characteristics of SMEs, their strengths and weaknesses / Application: A case study on SWOT analysis of a sample SME operating in the metal/manufacturing sector.
Week 13 - Theoretical & Practice
Networking, the entrepreneurship ecosystem, KOSGEB and government supports provided to entrepreneurs / Application: Reviewing and simulating KOSGEB Entrepreneurship Support Program application forms and specifications.
Week 14 - Theoretical & Practice
Intellectual and industrial property rights (Patent, utility model, etc.) and general evaluation / Application: Presentation of the final business model canvas and business idea projects prepared throughout the term as an "Investor Pitch."
