Education System
Philosophy undergraduate degree program consists of 8 semesters. The department offers formal education and the language of instruction is Turkish. Students enrolled to the programme must finish minimum 240 ECTS coursework succesfully in order to graduate from the programme. Besides, the department made necessary arrangements in the cirriculum and offers 16 credit Sociology and 16 credit Psychology which is necessary for the graduates in order to work as philosophy teacher beside holding a Pedagogical Formation Certificate. Terms of Exchange and Transition Programs
Exchange and transfer between programs are subject to Adnan Menderes University Directives for Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programmes and Adnan Menderes University Directive for Lateral Transfer. Successful students can also apply for Erasmus and Farabi Exchange Programmes. Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete all the requirements of the program are awarded with the “Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy”
Specific Admission Requirements
Students are required to be a graduate of high school or equivalent and must have an adequate score from Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS) held annually by the Turkish Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) or for foreign students; from Foreign Student Exam (YÖS) held by ADÜ. Profile of The Programme
Philosophy undergraduate degree programme consists of 4 years of education and the language of instruction is Turkish. There are 6 faculty members and 5 research assistants who are competent in their area of proficiency at the department. Besides History of Philosphy the department offers required and elective courses covering all core areas of philosohy: Ontology, Epistemology, Ethics, Philosophy of Science, Logic, Aesthetics, History of Turkish- İslamic Thought , Human Rigts etc. By the application of this intensive cirriculum it is intended for the students to gain indepth knowledge and capability of rational questioning on the doctrines, concepts and problems of the core areas of philosohy. Besides, students have the opprtunity to take elective courses from Sociology, Psychology and other departments that they are interested in . Within this framework it is aimed to bring up individuals who have analytical, critical thinking abilities together with problem solving skills that can reason consistently, have ability to interpret and adopt different perspectives, have a sense of responsibility and respect for human rights and can contribute to culture.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of Philosophy B.A. Programme can further their academic studies by enrolling to a Masters program provided that they meet other requirements announced by the institute they wish to apply. Others who hold Pedagogical Certificate can choose to pursue a teaching career at private or public high schools or other institutes. Considering that philosophy improves analytic and critical thinking abilities, communication skills and these are transferable to many other job fields, graduates can also have successful careers in private sectors like publishing, human resources and public relations etc.
Access to Further Studies
Students holding B.A. degrees are eligible to apply for the M.A. programs, providing that they have a valid score from ALES, administered by OSYM of Turkey and other conditions required by individual programs
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Examinations consist of mid-terms, final exams. Students must attend at least 70% of theoretical courses in order to take final exams. Full grade is 100 points. Examinations may be written or oral. Final grade consists of the 40% of mid-term exam and 60% of final exam. Student should get at least 50 points final grade in order to be considered successful in a course. Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate, students must have at least 166 ECTS for required, 66 ECTS for departmental elective and 8 ECTS for non-departmental elective courses; in total 240 ECTS credits.
