Philosophy undergraduate degree programme consists of 4 years of education and the language of instruction is Turkish. There are 6 faculty members and 5 research assistants who are competent in their area of proficiency at the department. Besides History of Philosphy the department offers required and elective courses covering all core areas of philosohy: Ontology, Epistemology, Ethics, Philosophy of Science, Logic, Aesthetics, History of Turkish- İslamic Thought , Human Rigts etc. By the application of this intensive cirriculum it is intended for the students to gain indepth knowledge and capability of rational questioning on the doctrines, concepts and problems of the core areas of philosohy. Besides, students have the opprtunity to take elective courses from Sociology, Psychology and other departments that they are interested in . Within this framework it is aimed to bring up individuals who have analytical, critical thinking abilities together with problem solving skills that can reason consistently, have ability to interpret and adopt different perspectives, have a sense of responsibility and respect for human rights and can contribute to culture.
History
Philosophy Department was founded in 1992 started teaching and reasearch in Fall 2006-2007 as an undergraduate department with 30 students. By 2017 our department continues education with 252 undergraduate students. Our department began postgraduate education in 2010 and also offers a joint PhD. Programme with Pamukkale University since 2011
Mission
The goal of our department is to create consciousness about the need for philosophy in private and social life including scientific research; to encourage acting in accordance with “reason”; to bring up individuals and citizens responsive to national and international problems and needs, putting respects to “moral law” and taking into consideration the “knowledge of value” as well as regarding and protecting human rights to create a more humane world through philosophical education.
Vision
The vision of programme is being one of the leading centers for undergraduate philosophy education in Turkey.
Purpose
To develop the consciousness of the requirement of philosophy both in private and public life. To provide the philosophy students with the necessary knowledge which will help them make intellectual contributions to the society, to enocourage students to develop their problem identification and solving skills. To try finding solutions for problems concerning human rights and social services by constituting social discussion platforms.
Physical Infrastructure
Our department benefit from the physical infrastructure provided by ADU Arts and Science Faculty.
Technical Infrastructure
The library and computer laboratories of the university are available for students.
