To gain a basic knowledge and understanding of the basic problems of philosophy in the Middle Ages, the transformations it underwent and the concepts and ideas specific to this period.
Plotinus and Neo-Paltonianism, Patristic Philosophy, Augustine, Boethius, The Controversy of the Universals, Socolastic Philosophy, Anselm, Thomas Aquinas, William of Ockhma.

| 1. | Have knowledge about medieval philosophy and its background |
| 2. | Gains knowledge of medieval religious teachings and religion-philosophy relations |
| 3. | Be able to develop arguments and conceptual explanations about leading medieval philosophers and their concepts |
| 4. | Be able to give an account of the metaphysical teachings of the Latin, Greek and (partly) Arabic traditions. |
