The primary objective of this course is to critically examine the concept, theories, and practices of development within the framework of international relations. Within the scope of this course, the historical transformation of development, core theoretical schools such as modernization, dependency, and post-development, and the roles of international actors (UN, World Bank, NGOs) in development policies will be addressed. The course aims to enable students to analyze global inequalities, human development, and sustainable development goals in relation to the dynamics of international politics.
The International Relations and Development course covers the global development architecture and dominant power relations from the post-colonial era to the present. Throughout the semester, core topics such as economic growth, human security, poverty reduction, the relationship between gender and development, foreign aid, and debt crises will be examined. Furthermore, sustainable development goals, climate justice, the migration-development nexus, and the impact of the rise of the Global South (BRICS, etc.) on development paradigms will be analyzed in light of contemporary crises.
